Post 8: This Week in Science (Fruit Flies Part 1)

Fruit flies in a tube with their food at the bottoms and cotton stuff inside on the top.
This week in science cohort 3 did a little chart in our notebooks with 3 flies:
1. male,male,male
2.female,female,female
3.male,male,female

4.female,female,male
If the flies was in the same tube together we have to see what will happen if the flies will make babies or not.We also saw a trade of the "Drosophila Life Cycle"on the paper.
1st is the male & female on top, 2nd is the egg, 3rd is the small larva, 4th is the medium larva, 5th is the big larva, then last one of the life cycle is the pupa.

I learned from fruit flies that when you wanna count bugs you have to use fly nap to put them to sleep and the flies are small so how you suppose to know if they female or male. I could tell if its a female flies and a male flies because on the internet it shows that the male is hairy and the female is not.

Post 7: This Week in Science (Ecosystems)

Me,Melody & Tianna at the field trip in the garden.
This week in science I did a group project with Melody & Tianna with our spider habitats finding insects for our spider to eat.In cohort:3 went on a field trip in science to the garden,so Melody,Tianna, & I went to get bags for our hands, then we took our tanks and 1st we put pebbles in our tank, 2nd we pick up dirt from the ground with the shovel and put dirt on top of the pebbles,3rd we put our rocks, plants, mini cave for our spider to live in, we sprayed water in the tank.We went around the garden to look under rocks and dig through dirt to find centipedes, worms, snails, slugs and other insects that spider like to eat.
One thing in my terrarium is that our 2 snails is moving on the glass and plastic.Second thing I notice that me,melody found a bug moving on the stick in our terrarium,so we didn't remember catching that.I told melody that bugs be crawl on sticks and leafs that's how they got there.
This week in science I learned that spiders eat a lot and these insects in our tank can crawl fast except the two snails we have in our tank because their slow.I learned that some insects in our tank die fast.I also learned that when you put insects in the terrarium their like half dead and alive.
This is our tank with our insects, with sticks as our mini cave for our spider, and moss on top of the rock.
I'm curious about the spider because I hope the spider won't break the plastic that we put on top on the tank with tape on it and then we put the cover back on.I also hope that the snails stay alive in our tank because we have 2 that is small that's light green and the other one is big that's tan with red squirls on it.

Post 6: This Week in Science (Spider Habitat Design)

This week in science I did a group project with our spider habitat design to see what we will put in our tank to build a home and put food in it.My group also did a game called "The Carbon-Oxygen Cycle" on the internet that shows:Atmosphere,Surface Ocean,Marine Life,Deep Ocean and Plant Life. This game is basically showing us how carbon goes around the board, but if you land on the orange star question mark you have to answer the questions if you get it right then you move on to the next question that's around there and if you land on one of those categories it tells you about what you don't know or wanna know.
On our group poster we made a food chain with the Sun-->Bonsai Tree-->Bugs-->Mr.Spider,then we did a abiotic and biotic chart of our spider,we did a top view and a side view,so people could see what's inside of our tank, the relationship with our spider is a predator and the bugs is the prey, and we also did a supply list of the things we will be putting in our tank.In our tank were gonna have: dirt, water, bonsai tree, bushes,a cave, rocks, bugs and our last and not least which is our spider.
This week in science I learned that a carbon/oxygen is a diagram with our spider, tree, and the insects. We are learning how carbon and oxygen cycle through ecosystem.
Spider---->Tree---->Insects. I also learned that spiders need a lot of supplies to survive themselves in their environments. My 3 partners in this group project are Melody, Tianna,& Aicha. We did a good job on this project and making a home for our spider in the tank........
